The CH-53D Sea Stallion is used by the Navy as a medium-lift helicopter. It is designed to transport personnel, supplies, and equipment. It was first used to fulfill the heavy-lift requirements needed by the Marine Corps. It has since been replaced by the CH-53E Super Stallion for heavy-lift operations. The CH-53D and the CH-46E Sea Knight are slated for replacement by the MV-22 Osprey.
